Grin-n-Barrett Cards are the creation of Paul Barrett, Principal Bassoonist with the Honolulu Symphony. These cards were first introduced in 1998. The website was established in 2009 while the Honolulu Symphony cancelled all scheduled concerts. Hopefully, the Barrett Family’s need for a new source of revenue can inspire a new line of updated images, as well as sharing these delightful images from 1998 with a wider public. Currently available are the Angels, Christmas, Musicians, Deconstructed and two sets of Hawaiian Impressions, all assortments of 8 cards. They can be found on the ‘Currently Available’ link. Retail outlets that carry Grin-n-Barrett Cards include the Pillbox Pharmacy in Kaimuki, Music Center of Hawaii & CK Violins in Kaka’ako,

& the Island Treasures Art Gallery in Kailua.

Future cards are being prepared for production, and are currently available

for special orders. (Please see the ‘Special Orders’ page)

You will find a wide variety of subjects, ranging from Angels playing instruments to scenes of Hawaii. Please contact me and let me know which images you like!

You can sign my guestbook and make a comment

About Grin-n-Barrett Cards:

The drawings for the cards began on sheets of music, doodled during Symphony rehearsals. Most of the pictures were of conductors or soloists, and they usually resembled animals – one conductor in particular seemed to always end up as a dog. Enthusiastic reaction from colleagues and even the staff librarians (who photocopied the drawings for posterity!) encouraged the production of still more drawings. Mix in the amazing powers of computer art programs and the whimsy of an eccentric artistic with a humorous imagination, and Grin-n-Barrett Cards was born.

An early doodle from the late 1970‘s depicting the late Les Petrere,

conducting the Nutcracker!

Taking advantage of an unusual

break in the music: Best. Doodle. Ever.
